Bloodied noses! Car crashes! Police harassment! Jealous boyfriends! These were just a few of the hazards that faced the beat groups who roamed Australia during the mid-sixties. Despite these obstacles (perhaps because of them) a number of homegrown acts came to epitomise the down and dirty sound of the Antipodean underground. Released in 2004 by Melbourne Community Radio Station 3CR, the book (by Iain McIntyre and Ian D Marks) and accompanying tribute CD (featuring 19 of Melbourne's toppest...

The greatest English beat group of the last twenty years... Their First LP was put out by Billy Childish on and their second was on Yep! of Hove, and now this one here in association with Cormorant Recordings of Brighton, England... Whatever possessed them?? Maybe the Polaroids...

Originally released in 1995 on Billy Childish's Hangman's Daughter label, this is the universally acclaimed debut LP of the legendary (in as much as they didn't actually exist) Hove (ex-Cambridge) group. Some call it garage, some call it punk, some call it garage-punk, and others leave out the hyphen. Who cares?! This is uh da bombe.

Without question, the greatest English psyche masterpiece ever! Well, since the advent of recorded music, anyway. Originally from Yep! of Hove in 1996 (surely you mean 1969? - ed.) - now available on LedaTape by arrangement with Cormorant Recordings.

PM of Xmas Day 2004, I returned alone to my garret to render myself insensible. I was making simaltaneous headway through a six-pack of Melbourne and several million bytes of encoded tunes. As my reptilian cortex gained dominance, the playlist criteria grew more arcane. Suddenly from the tiny tinny speakers blared thisness... unreleased(?) diamond from the oeuvre of N. Palmer esq. - he had forgot to inform me of its existence. Kinda bookending 'all over the night' (off 'elpee' qv leda015). I...

A poignant song about love affair between a man and a porno cinema. Includes vintage videogame noises for no readily explicable reason.

Voila! La fameuse album! Our meagre tribute to the unmitigated genius of Syd Barrett, the most important force in 20th century music bar none. His rendition of this tune remains unissued legitimately, so this is a previously suppressed full length version of our take (see www.pinkstainless.net for details). Now you get the song as well as the backwardsness and horse noises, but whether that rates as an improvement depends on if you have ears or not. Neigh!

It appears that something arises periodically from its ancient undersea dwelling off Hove, seeking to wrest the melodic being from the very throats of those who sing the tunes.

When Irving Gribbish (of Splodge Cinema fame) told me I had to check out Experiments in the Revival of Organisms (available from The Prelinger Archives) I got straight onto it. This guy knows his onions. It turned out to be some 1000% bizarre educational propaganda gizmo thing outta the Techfilm Studio, Moscow in 1940. Good so far, I figured. That night, I sat down to watch it with a pal and a 6pack - but a coupla minutes in I jumped up and yelled "fucking hell it´s the clip for blood...

The Free Software Song is a filk song by GNU/EMACS guru Richard M. Stallman. The song is usually set to the traditional Bulgarian melody of "Sadi Moma" but PST developed their own tune instead inna reverse-engineery stylee. This version has Chris Hughes (of Berlin's Methylated Spirits) on second git - except the solo which is by Sehguh Sirhc. Visit www.pinkstainless.net for more lifestyles of the Pink and Stainless...

At last, this sought-after PS[T] "curiosity" is available to the public! We wanted to play "Blood Sugar Dropping" but Harry broke a string. I would've rather been at home watching the Saturday Night Cult Movie on SBS, and I said as much. Twenty bucks in the rider for four of us; never again...

This work was conceived as an expansion of the S-aspect of my novel "A259 Multiplex Bomb 'Outrage'" (CodeX, 1995). Pragmatic concerns dictate that these are the only tracks that can be released at the present time - assuming there is such a thing.

The head of the medusa occupies a distinctive but ambiguous place in the symbology of overhyped French philosopher Jacques Lacan. We took the words for this from a poem by Percy Shelly about the painting by Da Vinci of a scene described by Ovid, amongst others. The legend of Perseus and Andromeda is a bit of a hobby horse for me I'm afraid. The name of the song is a pun on Wilhelm Reich.

The "A Warning" project began in London in 2004 where Iain composed a number of songs on a Holiday Genie organ before recording them with a semi-functioning three track cassette recorder. The songs were then transferred to a 16 track digital recorder and analogue synthesizer lines added in Melbourne in 2006 before a number of songs were turned over to collaborators who laid down vocals and strings in 2007. During 2007 Iain also pillaged archive.org as well as the collection of Bruce...
